Arsenal And Brighton Incident Gives Jose Mourinho The Perfect Ammunition Against The FA

Arsenal and Brighton incident gives Jose Mourinho the perfect ammunition against the FA | Football | Sport

Arsenal and Brighton played out an entertaining 1-1 draw on Boxing Day, with Jurgen Locadia cancelling out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s early goal.

One of the biggest incidents of the match, however, came when Emery booted a bottle into the stands.

“I said to them, ‘apologies’, because I kicked the bottle after a disappointing action for us in the last minutes,” he said in the aftermath of the draw at the Amex.

“It wasn’t hard, but it touched one supporter for them. I said to them I’m sorry.”

It is obviously good that the Arsenal boss apologised for his actions.

But imagine if it was Jose Mourinho? Even an apologetic Mourinho?

Back in 2016, the 55-year-old was given a one-match ban for kicking a bottle during a Premier League match against West Ham.

That was because Mourinho supposedly ‘endangered people around him’ with his actions.

But, in the time since, the rules appear to have changed. Pep Guardiola has done it. No ban.

Jurgen Klopp has even thrown a bottle, but again was spared punishment.

And now Emery. Whose incident was not included in the referee’s report because of his reaction and apology after the incident.

When Mourinho did it, the whole footballing world reacted as if he was the devil himself.

Even this season, the United boss somehow angered everybody in the sport by CELEBRATING by throwing bottles in a Champions League match.

Imagine that. Criticised, for celebrating a goal?

The rules appear different when it comes to Mourinho. Despite recent turmoil, he is still one of the game’s best managers.

What the FA do now remains to be seen.

The same FA who appealed their own panel’s decision NOT to ban Mourinho for swearing earlier in the season.

Emery deserves the same treatment as Mourinho. Not because what he did was particularly heinous, but because everybody should be treated the same.
