CS Matiang’i vows to deal with notorious criminals in Mombasa

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said the long arm of government will catch up with criminals at Kiasuni area in Mombasa county who have been terrorising residents. The no nonsense man has declared to deal with the criminals saying he has been observing their movements very keenly.

Speaking at Kayole Police Station in Nairobi on Christmas day, Matiang’i said his office was working closely with that of Inspector General Joseph Boinnet to see perpetrators of crime at Kisauni are brought to book.

“The Inspector General and I are paying very special attention on what is going on at Kisauni. Yesterday we agreed with the regional security team we are going to step up our efforts and we will clean up that place,” said Matiang’i. The CS also asked the security officers to work with community leaders to source for information on criminal activities in order to mitigate the effects.

“The new trend in the police work force is to work in an inclusive approach with all the community leaders,” he added. The CS’s sentiments came in wake of rising crime activities at Kisauni where two robbers stormed an M-Pesa shop and shot four people dead while leaving three others hospitalised.

Mombasa region and its surrounding areas have experienced a rise in crime activities which has claimed many lives and among them is a former deputy governor of Kilifi county Kenneth Kamto who was gunned down by unknown people at his home in Nyali.
