They may be top of the Premier League this Christmas but Liverpool are still on the lookout for new signings in January.

It was a great start to the Christmas schedule for Jurgen Klopp. First he saw his side win at Wolves on Friday to go top of the league then nearest rivals Manchester City were surprisingly beaten 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium by Crystal Palace. A four-point lead at the top is not to be sneezed at but it could all change  very quickly.

Liverpool are at home to Newcastle United on Boxing Day and face City away on January 3. The Christmas schedule is incredibly demanding – even on the league’s biggest squads – and Klopp says injuries may force him to seek new recruits when the transfer window opens in January.

Klopp has injury worries over Joe Gomez (ankle) and Joel Matip (collarbone) as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold (foot) and Naby Keita (rib).

“I’m very happy with what I’ve got but I’ve always said, you don’t know,” said Klopp when asked if the club was looking for new signings next month. “I’ll keep the door open.

“If some things happen, then we need to have a look. A monstrous number of games are coming up. It is really important that we can react.

“If something dramatically changes, we will need to have a look but if nothing happens, then we will not do anything. We don’t have that many options anymore because we have two injured centre-halves, so that immediately limits everything.”
