Three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers died and several others injured following a road accident at Salama slope on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Makueni County.
One soldier died on the spot and nine others were rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries. Two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment..
According to Mukaa OCPD Charles Muthui, the KDF soldiers aboard a military truck were coming from Mombasa heading to Kahawa barracks in Nairobi when the 11 AM accident happened. “Only one officer escaped unhurt,” he said.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road causing the truck to overturn near Salama market, Mukaa subcounty. Two other officers died while being treated at Machakos Level 5 hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.
Bodies of those killed in the crash were taken to Machakos Level 5 hospital mortuary.
One soldier is also reported to have escaped unhurt.
