Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Friday released the results of the 2018 KCSE exams. CS Mohamed announced that Josphat Mwangi Kamau of Nyoro Secondary School, Mathioya sub-county, Murang’a was the most improved candidate of the year.

She revealed that the government had introduced a new analysis system that indicated

“Ladies and gentlemen this year we have gone a step further to conduct an analysis on how individual candidates have performed in the KCSE compared with their KCPE results four years ago.

“Our aim is to show the value added to candidates by the schools based on how their performance actually improved,” she explained.

Mwangi had scored 278 marks in his KCPE and managed to get an A- of 79.4 in the KCSE exam.

Poor KCPE marks not a Death Sentence

The CS also named four others who had shown a similar level of excellence explaining that poor KCPE scores do not necessarily mean complete failure in academics.

The four are Keino Richard who had 257 in KCPE and a B+ in KCSE, Maingi George Mburu who had 279 marks but attained a B+ as well, Wambui James Kamau who scored a B- despite 186 marks in KCPE and Cheruiyot Gideon who had 209 marks in KCPE and scored a B in the KCSE.
