DCI Kinoti’s story of survival after 28 bullets’ attack

The Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti has narrated how he survived 28 bullets to the stomach. Speaking during an interview to the Star, Kinoti revealed that the incident occurred in 2005 when he intervened during a robbery. He was driving towards town when he noticed two thugs trying to rob a woman motorist. He did not hesitate as he challenged the gang whom he did not know were in the company of three others.

Kinoti was the then leader of the Kanga squad which had been set up to counter dangerous crimes in the city. The thugs shot him a total of 28 times. “I engaged the five gangsters. I accepted to die but wanted to save the members of the public who had gathered there. “My intestines were on the tarmac and those who picked me up declared me dead. On arrival at the hospital, the nurses placed a tag on me saying ‘dead’,” he was quoted by the Star.

He recalled that the thugs only shot him in his abdomen region and that gave him a chance of surviving. “I knew the thugs were killing me. I really fought. Fortunately, they did not get the upper part of my body. My stomach was ripped to pieces. Those who rescued me collected my intestines. My leg was in two pieces,” he added. Doctors rescued him by implanting a metal plate to reattach his leg, with Kinoti describing the recovery process as a painful affair.

Prior to the attack, the DCI director had survived seven bullets wounds in separate incidences. Kinoti affirmed that he was not afraid of death having experienced in severally in his field. “Even now, there are active threats to my head. There are quite a number of groupings who are plotting all manner of evil against me. I have seen death with my own eyes. If someone wants to shoot at me, let them go ahead if they so wish but it won’t deter me. I have had bullets in my body,” he explained.
