No one is above the law!Cabinet minister sentenced to jail

High court has sentenced Mombasa County Finance Executive (CEC) Maryam Abdillahi to six months in jail on.

Justice John Mativo directed the police to arrest Abdillahi for disobeying a court order.

The authorities were directed to communicate to the court the date and the manner in which the order will be executed or reasons as to why, if not executed.

In November, Justice David Majanja had issued summons against her in a case where it was claimed that she owes Kshs 37 million to a car dealer.

In the case, Associated Automobiles Distributors Limited had sued the defunct Municipal Council of Mombasa for failing to pay for five vehicles sold to them.

The company claimed that it sold and delivered the cars as per the council’s request and order in Nairobi during the years 1998 and 1999.

Through Murage Juma & Company Advocates, the company told the court that it also supplied Mombasa with spares parts and rendered services of the agreed value of Kshs 184,996 as per their request in 1998.

Former nominated Senator Joy Gwendo   was sentenced to a two year  for failing to honour a plea bargain she entered with the state to pay Kshs1.7 Million.

She was later released from Lang’ata Women’s Prison, on a Kshs 400,000 cash bail.

Gwendo had been accused of issuing bad cheques to Kisumu East Cotton Growers Cooperative Society before entering into a plea bargain with the DPP.
