Merry or messy X-mass?Father, Daughter detained for more days

Do you remember the waitress  who was arrested along side her father  in connection with the murder of a businessman in Nanyuki,Laikipia County?

Two suspects will remain in police custody longer after the court deferred their plea taking to January next year.

The accused,Jane Wanjiku and her father Charles Macharia, were Thursday presented before Nanyuki Magistrate Njeri Thuku but did not take plea since they were yet to undergo a mental assessment as directed by the court.

The court was told that the accused had not undergone the psychiatric examination since the doctor who is supposed to conduct the test at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital is on sick leave.

The suspects, through their lawyer Rixon Shikuku, applied to be transferred from Nanyuki police cells to Nanyuki GK prisons claiming that they were being harassed by the police.

The plea taking was set for January 3, 2019.

The accused were last arraigned in court on December 6, but were remanded for 14 days  after the court granted the prosecution’s request for more time to detain the suspects pending conclusion of investigations.

The two, Charles Macharia and daughter Jane Wanjiku, were arrested while at a petrol station in Kirwara, Murang’a County.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives also found the two were possession of belongings that had been reported missing from the deceased’s house.

The about a stolen car after which they laid an ambush and spotted the car headed to a police station.

“Detectives acted swiftly on receiving information about the stolen car & laid an ambush. After a short while,it was spotted being driven to a Petrol Station in Kirwara,Gatanga & the driver(Charles Macharia)arrested.The vehicle & all stolen electronics from the deceased recovered,” stated the DCI.

The vehicle, together with the other stolen belongings, was later recovered.

Gachibi’s body was found by his employees in a pool of blood at his house after they went to check on him.
