Justice delayed for Westgate victims as court postpones ruling

Five years on after the tragic Westgate attack and those affected in the terrorist attack that brought the entire country to a standstill have not yet been served with justice as the perpetrators are yet to be charged.

By the look of things, it might a little longer for justice to prevail as the Trial Magistrate in the case, Francis Andayi has postponed the ruling of the case.

A ruling on whether four suspects involved in the September 21 attack are to be charged was scheduled for today December 20 but has now being pushed further to January 14, 2019 after the Magistrate said he was not yet ready to issue a verdict.

The four suspects; Mohammed Ahmed Abdi, Liban Abdullah, Adnan Ibrahim and Hussein Hassan are accused of being behind the Westgate shopping mall attack on September 21, 2013. They are also facing charged of aiding terrorist groups and being in Kenya illegally.

The four have however denied the charge of being involved in the mall attack which killed 67 people and left more than 100 others injured.

More than 145 witnesses testified against the accused persons.

The Westgate Mall attack on September 21, 2013 left 71 people dead among them 62 civilians, five Kenyan soldiers, and four attackers. About 200 people were injured when the mass shooting occurred as Kenya’s elite forces responded to neutralize the attackers.
