ANC chief Musalia Mudavadi has said that leaders have agreed on a referendum and that only the questions to be put in the vote remain.

Speaking at his Nairobi home where he hosted last year’s election losers from Mt Kenya region, Mudavadi called for dialogue to build consensus.

“Developing consensus through dialogue means that the impending referendum will not be contested in ways that will polarise the country,” Mudavadi said. Mudavadi had previously opposed the constitutional change call, saying it had been hijacked by politicians with selfish interests.Image result for President Uhuru KenyattaLast week, President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted the referendum may be necessary to promote inclusivity and cohesion.

Mudavadi said people should not read to much into his meeting with the politicians. ‘’I know Kenyans will perceive this to be matters of succession politics, but we are not here to discuss politics, butmatters of national interest,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the former MPs, Mr Mutahi Kagwe, the former Nyeri senator, insisted that the meeting had nothing to do with the 2022 politics, but exploring ways on how the country can move forward.

He said time has come for Kenyans to have another look at the Constitution and make it more responsive to the challenges facing the nation.

“It is our view that the Constitution must be responsive to the needs of Kenyans. There are certain tenets of the supreme law that we need to have another look at. We need to correct them because they may not have come out correctly during the last review,” he said.
