Negligence? 3 ARRESTED For Impersonating DCI Detectives And Extorting Money

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday published photos of three con men who were arrested for impersonating detectives. Hillary Ngondi Kyengo, James Ndirangu Kagecha and David Mwaniki Maluki had infiltrated the ranks of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and were purporting to be working for the CEO, Ms Nancy Macharia.

The gang allegedly lied to TSC officials that the CEO had ordered an in-house investigation that could lead to arrests. They were using the con to extort money from the commission officials, it is unclear how much they had already made off the scam and how long they had kept it up. A statement from the DCI noted that three would be arraigned in court in the course of the day.

High Court order against DCI

The DCI official handle shared mug shots of the three suspected criminals on their official Twitter handle, an act that was recently prohibited by the High Court. Justice Wilfrida Okwany ordered the DCI to refrain from sharing the photos of arrested suspects on December 10, until a suit challenging the legality of the practice is heard and determined on March 5, 2019. Here are the three photos the DCI shared on Wednesday despite the court injunction.
