Interior CS Fred Matiangi has today asked the leaders to desist from inciting people against police officers as has been happening recently.
The CS also urged everyone to follow the law so that the Government can continue executing it mandate of serving and protecting Kenyans.
Speaking in regard to the progress after implementation of the Michuki Rules, which commenced on 12 November 2018,he said that the policies are bearing fruit.
He added that the operation to establish a safe public transport system was still on and will not stop anytime soon especially since Kenyans are nearing the festive season.
He directed all concerned security and transport agencies to diligently conduct their duty without fear or favor. CS Fred Matiangi also clarified on the news that the police material for new uniforms cannot be found.
The Government has reiterated that the new police uniforms will be procured and made locally in line with the police reforms that were launched in the presence of H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta on 13th September 2018.
Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, said that the Government will not succumb to any pressure from any individual or organization to import the material or readily made uniforms.
“Buy Kenya, build Kenya. We have people who can work here in Kenya. We as the government need to provide employment to our people and importing such things is going against it,” he said.
The CS added that the Permanent Secretary in the Interior Ministry, Dr. (Eng) Karanja Kibicho, was recently on a tour to inspect the progress of the new uniforms and the report he brought back was positive.
The CS spoke while meeting with the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Caucus on the transport sector reforms. Together with his counterpart from the Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Ministry, James Macharia, they agreed to extend the deadline on the implementation of reforms in the boda boda sector by four months from 1st February, 2019 to 1st May, 2019.
Matiangi also said that they shall appoint two more members to the Task Force on Policy, Legal and Administrative Reforms and before the 1st of May deadline, convene a national convention with boda boda representatives, where the Task Force will be expected to present their report.
