Inhumane!!Infant found dumped in sugarcane plantation

A one year old baby who was dumped in sugarcane plantation in Matete, Kakamega County has been rescued by the police officers.

The baby was found by Administration Police Moses Mang’eni. He took the baby to Malava Sub-county Hospital.
“The baby was fatigued and looked dehydrated and hungry. It seems she was dumped two nights before I found her. Some children who are abandoned are usually out of incest but for this case, we are not sure,” Mang’ani said.
He said he could be forced to adopt the child and ensure she gets a good education.
“Our duty as police officers is to secure life and property.”Matete AP boss Japheth Ambalwa praised Mang’eni for rescuing the baby.
He said Mang’eni had been at the forefront to ensure parents take their children to school.“Since we opened the gender violence desk, Mang’eni has been championing for parents to take children to school. He moves around rescuing children locked up in homes.
“At least 50 girls, some who were sexually abused, are now in school,” Ambalwa said.
The police commander decried rising cases of children abandonment and teenage pregnancy in Matete.
“Parents should find alternative ways of solving family disputes without hurting children. We need to educate our children and not put their lives at risk,” he said, noting that divorce cases are equally on the rise and women are being thrown out of homes with their children.
He said investigations had been launched to identify the baby’s mother.“If the baby’s mother is found, she risks being prosecuted for cruelty,” he said.

However this is not the first case of unborn babies found dumped in Kenya.
