Champions league draw hands Jurgen Klopp a return to Allianz Arena

The round of 16 Champions league live draw has just ended. Liverpool will be facing a mouthwatering tie against Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The draw in Nyon has handed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp a return to the Allianz Arena to face his old foes.

Klopp had a fierce rivalry with Bayern during his spell in charge of Borussia Dortmund, who were beaten by the Bundesliga giants in the 2013 Champions League final.

Liverpool and Bayern haven’t met in competitive action since the 2001 European Super Cup final when goals from John Arne Riise, Emile Heskey and Michael Owen earned the Reds a thrilling 3-2 win.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will have home advantage for the first leg with a trip to Germany to follow.

The first leg of the last 16 ties will be spread across February 12/13/19/20 with the second legs on March 5/6/12/13.

Bayern have endured a difficult season so far with Niko Kovac at the helm. They currently sit third in the Bundesliga – nine points behind leaders Dortmund.

Liverpool finished as runners-up in Group C after a dramatic final day group win over Napoli saw them qualify behind Paris Saint-Germain.

It will represent a reunion for Xherdan Shaqiri, who played for Bayern between 2012 and 2015.
