The body of a missing Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Kakamega was found floating in a dam in Koromatangi area. Policce retrieved the body on Friday, December 24 , after a member of the public informed the security agents of its presence in the killer water body. Residents spotted the body floating on the water before alerting police on Friday evening.
Kakamega Central OCPD Joseph Chebii confirmed the incident saying the student whom they could not disclose his identity was a third year student in the institution which conducted its 13th graduation on Friday, December 14.
“We suspect he might have slipped into the dam while fetching water. It is not the first time bodies have been retrieved from this particular dam. A few months ago two boys who went to wash clothes at the dam drowned,” said the police boss. He said the residents helped in the identification of the 25-year-old deceased person.
“We urge residents to be careful and stop carrying activities in unprotected zones of the dam to avert similar incidents,” Chebii cautioned.
He said they had launched investigations to establish what could have caused the drowning. The deceased’s body was taken to Kakamega County Referral hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
