Found guilty of abuse of office and fraud, former nominated senator Joyce Gwendo was sentenced to 2-year jail term. The court had apparently also ordered that she be jailed without the option of a fine because of ‘hoodwinking the court’.
Her sentence has not lasted. It is reported that Joyce Gwendo has been set free from Lang’ata women Prisons after paying sh. 400,000 cash bail. She has also paid 1.8 million that had her jailed.

The court found that the accused was dishonest.
On the third and fourth counts she was charged with, where she was charged with issuing a bad cheque; one amounting to Ksh.300,000 and another of Ksh.950,000, Gwendo was sentenced to six months in prison.
She was also denied the right of appeal with the court saying it had considered the mitigation.
Though Joyce has cleared the debt that had landed her in Lang’ata Womens Prison ,she will still have to face it off with the court over the abuse of office which she was also charged with.
His release will mostly likely raise eyebrows about the political interference. Because her sentence has lasted less than a month.
The issue of politics and vested interest will come into play as the court had absolutely denied her bail.
