Mourinho hit out at players after Champions League loss

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho hit out at his players following a costly 2-1 defeat against La Liga whip boys Valencia in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

In his true character, the Portuguese insisted he wasn’t “surprised” and “didn’t learn anything” from the match at the Mestalla which United needed to win to top Group H.

“I didn’t learn anything from this game – at all. Maybe you did (reporter), but not me.” He said after the match.

A late goal from Marcus Rashford wans’t enough for United as a first half Goal from Carlos Soler followed by own goal from Phil Jones proved enough to deny Mourinho’s men top spot despite Juventus shock loss to Young Boys on the same night.

“Nothing that happened surprised me at all, I am not pleased.

“I expect more from my players, especially players that week in, week out, they ask why they don’t play, why they don’t start.

“It was a good match to play, without any kind of pressure, in a competition that everyone likes to play in.”

Mourinho also insisted that despite not finishing top of the group, qualification to the last 16 was “a success”
“Before the game I told the players that, if we win tonight and Juventus win, we did our job; if we don’t win and Juventus doesn’t win, we can blame ourselves.

“But finishing second in this group is a success and I don’t think that finishing first or second – apart from a couple of clubs who are clearly much better than the others – [means] the draw will be significantly different.” He added
