Sarri said: ‘I want to say that I condemn any form of discrimination, of course. It was disgusting. You know very well my opinion, the opinion of the club, but now we have to go on.’ The Chelsea press officer had previously intervened to prevent further questions, citing concerns over prejudicing the police enquiry. However, the suspects are yet to be charged as police investigations continue.

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek revealed that he has previously experienced racial abuse off the field and has heard of cases of abuse in games abroad. The England international said: ‘Off the football pitch I have, years ago. Never on the pitch. It obviously does still happen. When incidents come like this we have to take a hard response.

‘We talk about it as players and how we should deal with it many times, especially growing up as a black player in the youth team, and when we have played abroad it does happen some times.  It does go on and it needs to be out of the game as quick as possible. Raheem is a strong minded person. It was the right thing for him to do to speak out. I would do the same thing.’
