Kenyans are definitely tired of corruption in this country and we are all familiar with the norm, the so-called ‘war on graft’ which in most cases is just cheap talk from our leaders.

In fact, we have become so familiar with this so called war on graft that KOT have actually predicted that President Uhuru Kenyatta will mention it in his public address during the Jamhuri Day Celebrations later on in the day.

“-On Jamhuri Day President Uhuru will talk about corruption

-Next day KE media will say “Uhuru talks tough on corruption”

-Few days later another scandal will emerge

-More days later, arrests

-Week later, bail releases It’s like showing Kenyans who stole what/where & that’s it,” read a tweet.

Aren’t we all familiar with this script? If this week alone could act as as example to the ‘war on graft’ then there is so much truth in this tweet by Wambui. We all thought the government was committed to fighting corruption when they launched investigations into the scandals in state agencies.

These investigations have since seen top officials in companies like Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the National Cereal and Produce Board (NCPB) arrested and detained in police custody after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) found evidence to use against them.

It is definitely a step forward in fighting graft but of what good is it when these suspects appear in court a day later and are released on cash bails of ridiculous amounts such as Ksh. 500,000. For anyone involved in a over a million-shilling scandal, having to pay such bail is peanuts for them.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has in the past promised that the fight against corruption would spare no one including his closest relatives and friends.

“No one is being targeted and we will not be distracted by those politicising the fight. Even if you are my sister, brother or mother, you will not be spared. If you are innocent, let us see that in court,” said the President.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti and the EACC all seem to be trying their best when it comes to fighting this vice. However, the judicial system seems to be the mole in all these scandals by letting these big-time criminals who have looted tax payer money walk away scot free.
