Raila Endorses Governor Sonko’s successor

CORD leader Raila Odinga has finally broken his silence on his preffered candidate for Nairobi Governor’s seat in 2022.

Raila endorsed Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi a brother to Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as the next governor of Nairobi over the weekend.

The endorsment of Wanyonyi by Raila comes at a time when 2022 politics is gathering pace in Nairobi and is expected to cause a storm in the ODM party.

Odinga made the endorsement while speaking at Kabete Technical where he was attending a football match orginized by Wanyonyi.

“Despite the fact that we are here for a football match, I want to say that our next Nairobi Governor is Tim. He is doing a good job, and deserves the ODM ticket in 2022,” Raila said.

The former Premier lauded the MP’s track record saying that it spoke for itself.

“Tim has a very good track record which speaks for itself, and that is why I honoured his invite and attended the match to support him.” he added.

Raila indicated that the Kenyan football standard is rising and observed that Harambee Stars qualification for the African Cup of Nations was a great achievement for the country’s football sector.

The NASA Leader said that he is an avid footballer and that is why he accompanied Gor Mahia to Everton because he wants more talents nurtured.

“Football is currently doing well in the country. Recently, I accompanied Gor Mahia to Everton and I was proud of the game they played,” he said.

The Endorsement sealed the fate of Dr Evans Kidero the first Nairobi Governor and ODMs flag bearer in the last general election who lost to Jubilee’s Mike Sonko.

Kidero who is facing several corruption charges was expected to make his try in 2022 but the decision by ODM to field a different candidate complicates matters for him.

ODM Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna who also unsuccessfully ran for Nairobi’s senatorial election is reported to have been shocked by the endorsement.

Odinga was accompanied by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, George Aladwa, Antony Oluoch and several MCAs from the ODM party.

Do you think other ODM members who are eyeing the same position will support Tim Wanyonyi?
