Kenyans are sometimes not the most loyal people especially when it comes to a brand. Safaricom over the years through its mobile money platform Mpesa, has saved Kenyans the hassle of queuing in banks and has offered them the convenience of making transactions just with the touch of a button.
However, like all other human beings, we are a society that forgets too fast and are always quick to bite the hand that feeds us. Last night, Safaricom’s Mpesa experienced an outage due to a database degradation that resulted in loss of service.
As we know it, technology will at one point or another always fail us but do Kenyans care about this?
As soon as Mpesa went down, Telkom Kenya’s mobile money platform T-Kash was already trending on Twitter. Where is the loyalty?

T-kash is Telkom’s Mobile Financial Service that simplifies and enables people to send money, pay bills and buy goods quickly on the move.
In March 2018, Telkom Kenya launched the new mobile money platform which now positions itself as a viable choice in a market currently dominated by Safaricom’s M-Pesa. According to the Communication Authority’s quarter one report, 22.7 million out of the 28 million mobile money subscribers are M-Pesa customers.
