“Sonko kwisha!”Movement seek to be enjoined in a case to remove Sonko from office

Do you think Nairobi Governor Mike sonko is serving Nairobi to its best? Will he really survive and continue serving as the Nairobi County Governor? The Nairobi City boss is facing a suit that seeks to oust him over alleged gross misconduct.

City lawyer Boniface Nyamu filed the petition in Court seeking to have the court declare the governor unfit to hold any public office and, therefore, pave way for fresh gubernatorial election in the county.

In response , the High Court  on Thursday certified the matter as urgent and Justice Wilfrida Okwany directed the petitioner Boniface Nyamu to serve Mr Sonko with the suit papers.

The case was filed a day after Mr Sonko allowed public service vehicles back into the city centre in wake of ban that caused more chaos, confusion and congestion, the very thing his policy was intended to end.

However, Nyamu’s petition has attracted another party. Bunge la Mwananchi Movement filed a case in court seeking to be enjoined in a case filed to have Nairobi governor removed from the office.

In the application they claim that if the prayers sought are not granted, voters and residents of the Nairobi City County and other neighboring counties will be adversely affected.

“The participation of the intended party in the proceedings will substantively contribute towards realizing a decision that is well informed professionally, politically sound and amenable to public interest,”reads the papers.

However, In an affidavit by Shitanda Henry Namiti ,the Movement argued that the petitioner, Boniface Nyamu should not be allowed to the case when he does not understand fully the predicament facing city residents.

Shitanda further claimed that the petitioner has not followed the laid down channels of airing his grievances but is circumventing the law to suit him and impeach the governor through the back door.

“The intended consequences of the petition amounts to political uncertainty in the County of Nairobi which also serves as a business hub and capital city,” argues Shitanda.

Shitanda added that there was a structured constitutional way of airing the grievances raised if any.

Do you think the movement wants to be enjoined in the case to defend Sonko’s ouster?
