Bandari Demolish Champions Gor Mahia in Season Opener

Will Gor Mahia be able to defend the Kenyan Premier League title?

After a rather shaky start to it’s CAF Championship, Champions Gor Mahia’s title defence got underway on a losing note as they went down 2-1 away to Bandari at the Mbaraki Stadium, Mombasa on Saturday.

William Wardi and David Kingatua gave the dockers a 2-0 lead with second half strikes before new signing Nicholas Kipkirui pulled a goal back for K’Ogalo.

However, it was not enough as Bandari, who finished in second place last season, held on for precious points leaving the champions to lick their wounds.

Gor Mahia had a near perfect squad with Francis Kahata being named in the squad.

Kahata missed Gor Mahia’s Caf Champions League match against Nyasa Big Bullets on Wednesday. But the influential midfielder, who is reportedly on his way to Morocco to sign with CS Constantine, was handed a league start against the Dockers.

Boniface Oluoch also maintained his place in goal while Ivorian Ephrem Guikan and Francis Mustapha led Gor’s attacks.
