Wakanda shines in 2019 Grammy Nominations

 

The nominations for the 2019 Grammys were unveiled today and Kendrick Lamar led the nominations for the 61st Grammy Awards, with eight nods recognizing his work for the “Black Panther” soundtrack, including the hit song “All the Stars” with SZA.

Only two music soundtracks have received nominations in the last 25 years, including 1995’s Waiting to Exhale and 2000’s O Brother, Where Are Thou? Black Panther became the third music soundtrack to earn an album of the year nod in the last 25 years.

The LP features efforts from Kendrick Lamar, who also curated the album.

Black Panther along with Lamar made out with a total of five nominations. In addition to album of the year, Black Panther’s pop-rap anthem “All the Stars,” performed by Lamar and SZA, is up for record of the year, song of the year, best rap/sung performance and best song written for visual media.

Lamar also is nominated for “King’s Dead,” for best rap performance and best rap song, alongside Jay Rock, Future and James Blake.

Black Panther is a 2018 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the eighteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU).

Black Panther premiered in Los Angeles on January 29, 2018, and was released theatrically in the United States on February 16, 2018.

Many critics considered Black Panther one of the best films by Marvel and was named one of the ten best films of 2018. It became the 9th-highest-grossing film of all time with over 1.3 billion dollars worldwide, breaking numerous box office records.

Black Panther has also received numerous awards and nominations, including three nominations at the 76th Golden Globe Awards. #
