Quack Doctor Mugo denied bail pending court trial

Do you remember the Eastland’s quack Doctor Mugo Wa Wairimu? Mugo, who is accused of running a pharmacy illegally has been denied bail, pending trial by a Nairobi court.

James Mugo Ndichu  had been detained at Pangani Police Station pending the completion of investigations. Nairobi Senior Resident Magistrate Ben Nzakyo had allowed the police to hold him for 10 days saying that the 14 days requested by police is too long a period for detention.

The Magistrate had further ordered police to take him to the hospital for treatment after he alleged that he was assaulted by the officers who arrested him.

Mugo had asked the court to release him on bail pending the hearing of his application.

In her ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku said there were strong competitive reasons for the accused not to be granted bail.

“I find that stringent bind terms alone cannot guarantee or safeguard the integrity of the trial process neither cannot guarantee the process of the trial,” Mutuku ruled.

She further said that there are compelling reasons that warrant her to deny Mugo bail.
