Raila not fit for ODM Party, Khalwale urges leaders to expel him

Ever since the hyped March 9th Handshake between President Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Raila Odinga there has been too much hullabaloo going round regarding the reunion of the two.

Well seems like the hullabaloo is yet to stop after Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale came out urging legislators in Raila’s party ODM to expel Raila Odinga from the party.

According to Khalwale, Odinga has associated himself with President Uhuru Kenyatta who is from the ruling Jubilee party so he should not be an exception.

In addition he said, “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, “If ODM wants us to believe them then as they expel these two MPs for associating with Ruto then they should also expel Raila for associating with Uhuru.”

His sentiment came after the party’s disciplinary committee recommended expulsion of Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori over gross misconduct.

Jumwa and Dori were recommended for expulsion by the ODM Disciplinary Committee on Tuesday November 4.

The reason cited is their alleged support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

However, the two embattled leaders have since pledged loyalty to ODM.

In a statement to newsroom on Wednesday, the Coast MPs assured Mr. Odinga of their commitment to the opposition party.

Their party leader, Odinga, then promised the duo that they would be given a fair hearing.

On Thursday morning, Khalwale termed the change of heart as a poor attempt to save their political seats.

“The perception Dori, Jumwa and others who might be affected want to give is that they are very apologetic. No! this is merely the calm before the storm. MPs Dori and Jumwa are aware if they don’t do this, they will run the risk of losing their seats under the Political Parties Act, ” said Khalwale.

“They must do this for the purposes of massaging their party and their party leader’s ego,” he added.

The legislators are expected to appear before the party’s National Executive Council early next year prior to a final decision on the disciplinary matter.

Other leaders who will be facing the council are seven MCAs including 6 from Homabay County Assembly who disregarded a party decision not to impeach the minority leaders.

The Homa Bay MCAs even turned hostile towards the County Assembly Speaker while she was communicating ODM’s stand in reinstating ousted leaders.
