David De Gea sums up Manchester United’s title chances in one word

Should Manchester United forget about Premier league title this season? Should they just focus on Champions league qualification?Well, David De Gea admits it’s “impossible” for the team to win the Premier League title this season.

Wednesday night’s draw with Arsenal leaves the Red Devils trailing leaders Manchester City by 18 points after just 15 games.

United overturned a 12-point deficit to pip Newcastle to top spot back in 1996.

However, De Gea has waved the white flag in the title race as City and Liverpool look set to go head to head.

He said: “It’s been a bad season so far for us to be honest. We’re in a poor league position. We’re Manchester United and we should be challenging for the title.

“We’re far behind and it’ll be impossible for us to win it, our aim is to qualify for the Champions League.”

Pressure on manager Jose Mourinho has intensified after just six wins in 15 games in the Premier League.

But De Gea added: “He’s the coach. We all have to be united. The players, coaching staff and the coach. We’re all pulling in the same direction and moving forward together.

“There might be a lot of criticism of the coach, but the ones that go out on the pitch are the players, the ones that score the goals are the players and we all have to think about what we can do to improve.”
