Image result for Moody Awori retirement benefitsJust this year treasury disclosed in the budget that for the first time Moody Awori would factor in the retirement package in its budget for financial year starting July in line with the changes made to the Deputy President and Designated State Officers Act.

Taxpayers coughed a whooping  Sh149.2 million for staff and the office of former Vice-President Moody Awori in the financial year ending June after he was included in the list of former State officers receiving lavish retirement benefits.

But even before the year comes to an end , the former 9th Vice President of Kenya, Moody Awori, ‘Uncle Moody’ is not only enjoying the retirement benefits but is back with a key role in managing sports funds including other functions like developing infrastructure and facilitating Team Kenya for their national assignment.Related image

‘Uncle Moody’ is among the seven-member oversight board that has been gazetted by the Finance Cabinet Secretary (CS) Henry Rotich to manage the Sports, Art and Social Development Fund formerly the National Sports Fund.

The board which is made up of five Principal Secretaries from the Ministries of Education, Arts, Health, National Treasury and Sports (who is also the funds administrator) will be working alongside Athletics Kenya boss Lieutenant General (RTD) Jackson Tuwei and former vice president Moody Awori.

Their key roles will be managing the fund, preparing and submitting quarterly reports to the Finance CS.

Federations will be required to be accountable and give full disclosure to the secretariat, which will monitor the funds to avoid double payment from the fund and their international federations.

All unutilized monies for specific functions set out by federations shall be remitted back to the fund, under the stewardship of the board.

The board will also monitor and evaluate the activities and programmes under the fund; as well as review guidelines priorities and criteria for allocation and disbursement of the funds to implementing agencies.

The seven-member board will also approve a limit for funding under sports, art and culture development annually.

Another mandate will be reviewing the annual revenue and expenditure of the Fund and recommend them to the Sports CS before handing it to the Finance CS.

They will also develop policy guidelines on the disbursement for the fund and approve funding caps under Sports Art and Social development.

As part of their mandate, they will also oversee developments of orthopedic units in all counties under the Ministry of Health, fund youth desiring to invest in sports industry providing clear sports opportunities for people living up country.
