UhuRuto & Raila Lead the World in Hailing King Eliud Kipchoge

Eliud Kipchoge, the worlds greatest marathoner and probably the greatest to ever set foot on earth is the talk of town all over after his exploits throughout the year saw him crowned as the best Male athlete of the year 2018.

Kenya’s Kipchoge ran his incredible 2:01:39 marathon world record in Berlin in September and that performance followed his victory on the roads of London in April, when he clocked 2:04:17.

The 34-year-old took 78 seconds off the previous record with his time in Germany.

Kipchoge, who has been regarded as the long distance running version of Olympic medalist Usain Bolt has received Plaudits from various parts of the World with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta leading others in celebrating the marathon icon.

“Congratulations for winning the 2018 IAAF Male Athlete of the Year Award. Your dominance in the marathon has not only propelled you to the history books of icons, but has also ensured Kenya remains a world leader in Athletics. We are very proud of you,” said Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga also sent their congratulatory remarks to the World’s best.

“Congratulations to Eliud Kipchoge for being named IAAF Male Athlete of the Year 2018 at awards ceremony in Monaco. A legend of the game, Kipchoge deserves the highest accolade for his prowess, consistency, tact, endurance, dominance and strength of character,” said William Ruto.

“Congratulations on being named the 2018 IAAF Male Athlete of the Year last night after setting the marathon world record in Berlin earlier this year. You have done kenya  proud. Keep inspiring our youth,” said Raila Odinga.

Other Kenyans and leaders also joined in celebrating Kipchoge with many thanking him for inspiring a generation and for being a role model worth emulating.

Kipchoge was last night crowned as the 2018 IAAF male athlete of the Year in a ceremony that was also attended by Prince Albert of Monaco alongside other world renowned athletes. Kipchoge beat Kevin Mayer for the Men’s Athlete of the Year award hence becoming the first Kenyan to win the coveted award since David Rudisha in 2010.

“I was happy not only to break the world record, but to run two hours and one minute,” Kipchoge said.

“I have internalised it now and accepted,” he joked.

“This award means a lot to me. I want to pass my gratitude to my family, my wife and my children – they are my ignition key every morning when I am waking up for training.” he added.

“Secondly I want to say thank you to my coach Patrick Sang, and to my management Global Sports Communication as they have exposed my career and I am able now to show to all that if you believe in yourself and work hard, you can achieve more. Finally a huge thank you to my sponsors Nike and NN.” he concluded.
