You can now go back to the “ciry” as Sonko bows down to pressure

On Monday, Nairobi city turned chaotic as the country turned into a walking nation following Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s directive to ban all public Service Vehicles from accessing Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

Hopelessness, dejection and frustrations rocked most city residents who walk up to realise that they couldn’t access commercial CBD with matatus.

Those residents accessing Nairobi using Thika Superhighway and Jogoo road suffered more. Those using Thika Superhighway and Waiyaki way were left at Ngara, a terminus that had been designated to all PSVs plying those routes.

Eastlands residents who access Nairobi via Jogoo road had to walk all the way from city stadium through Muthurwa market, to access the CBD.

Most businesses within the town were affected, and this must have hit City hall’s revenue the most.

After realising the pain residents and City hall had suffered, Governor Sonko on Tuesday morning suspended the ban on PSV vehicles from accessing the CBD, which sounds as good news to the residents.

“I have noted with deep concern the plight of city residents as a result of the ban, and hereby announce that the full implementation of this directive has been suspended with immediate effect,” Sonko said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said this will give room for more consultation with the affected parties in order to find a permanent solution.

Kenyans on twitter are now happy, considering the fact that they can now access the city.

What do you think should have been done to  better decongest the city without causing more pain on residents?
