A new life is always a miracle by mothers who have been given the precious privilege of ushering these young ones into earth. How ever this new mothers miracle came as a shock to many as may have recorded carrying the heaviest pregnancy in  Kenya.

A 31-year-old mother of four from Harambee village in Bungoma is in celebration after successfully delivering a six-kilogramme baby at the county referral hospital. Mwanaisha Wesonga delivered the baby through cesarean section, a first case in her family.

In a report by NTV, Mwanaisha said she had been consuming bananas in plenty, a factor she suspects might have led to the heavy weight of the baby.

“Even me I was surprised when they brought me the baby telling me its six kgs because I have never had such a delivery, its not normal but I thank God that I delivered successfully with the help of doctors,” said Mwanaisha.

Notably, this is not the first case of overweight baby to be delivered at the hospital. Barely seven months ago another middle-aged mother of three gave birth to a six-kilogramme baby at the hospital.

In May 2015, a 37-year-old mother Carolyne Chemutai gave birth to probably the World’s heaviest baby who weighed 6.3 Kgs then at the facility.

Doctors at the facility expressed concern over the growing number of heavy weight babies calling for a research to be conducted to identify the causes.

“We have introduced community health volunteers so that they can partner and move from door to door so that they can identify if there are healthy issues that families are facing which may lead to such rare cases,” said a health practitioner at the hospital.

Do you agree that the heavy weight babies is a crisis that should be looked into?
