This is What MP Aisha Jumwa Has to Do to Reverse the Curse of Eating a Forbidden Fruit

Is Aisha Jumwa and ODM’s relationship another story of Love gone Soar? Previously seen as a fierce defender of Raila Odinga and the ODM Party, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa is now considered an enemy within the Party. This is greatly due to her defiance of the Party’s position on various issues.

After being summoned to appear before ODM’s disciplinary committee and after long deliberations, ODM’s disciplinary wing has finally cracked the whip on Aisha Jumwa and his co-accused led by Msambweni Mp Suleiman Dori

The disciplinary committee has now called for their expulsion from the party over gross misconduct.

Also targeted are seven Members of County Assembly — six from Homa Bay and Immaculate Adhiambo of Busia County — who are accused of disobeying party decisions and have also been recommended for expulsion.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, during  a meeting of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) held in Nairobi and attended by among others ODM leader Raila Odinga.

In a statement to newsrooms, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna also noted that the Homa Bay MCAs; Dan Ochieng’ Were, Evans Dada Marieba, Julius Odhiambo Gaya, Geoffrey Onyango Juma, Paul Ongoro Wamunga and Joshua Okumu Nyabola exhibited violent and unruly behavior, which is against the party rules.

“Party discipline is paramount. Respect for party leadership, its organs and decisions made are components that make a stronger political party… ODM is not a party that tolerates disorder and unruly behaviour by her members,” read part of the statement signed by Sifuna.

The two MPs and seven MCAs had been summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee at Orange House on October 10, 2018 but failed to honour the summons.

They are expected to be summoned by the party’s National Executive Council early next year prior to the final decision being taken.

“Having looked at the report by the Disciplinary Committee, the National Executive Council of the party adopted the report. The NEC shall invite the members recommended for expulsion to appear before it at a special NEC meeting to be held early next year,” said Sifuna.

Ms. Jumwa and Mr. Dori ran into trouble with the party over their outright support of Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

At the Homa Bay County Assembly, MCAs disregarded a party decision not to impeach the minority leaders and even went a head to turn hostile to the County Assembly Speaker as she communicated the ODM’s stand reinstating the ousted leaders.

It remains to be seen if Aisha Jumwa and Dori will contest the expulsion. It also remain to be seen if they will change their political tone and sing the ODM song.

Is ODM right at recommending the expulsion of the two Coastal law makers?
