Kenya Railways sends warning to footbridge users

Kenya railways has warned commuters over the danger of using the footbridge in large numbers.

In a statement given on their facebook page, Kenya railways have urged the footbridge users to be orderly so as to avoid risking their lives and that of others.

This comes after photos of overloaded bridge and heavy human traffic went viral as a result of the Matatu CBD ban.

The heavy traffic was experienced yesterday on the Railway foot bridge connecting CBD and Landi Mawe and in other bridges as well.

Kenyans yesterday had raised concern on whether it was safe for the bridges to be that loaded.

The town was yesterday hit with confusion as many people were trying to adjust to the changes; Kenyans were reported to have walked for miles before getting to work.

In their statement, Kenya railways added that the Railway foot bridge connecting CBD and Landi Mawe  can only support a maximum of 5 people per square metre.

This was not the state of the bridge yesterday as many tried to make their way to get to their destinations.

“Kenya Railways would like to urge members of the public using the to do so in an orderly manner for their own safety and that of other users. The Railway Police have been deployed at the foot bridge to manage the heavy human traffic in order to avoid overloading of the bridge which can only support a maximum of 5 people per square metre.” reads the statement.

Even as Kenyans has been warned it is highly unlikely to see the human traffic that was experienced yesterday since the Nairobi County Government has lifted the ban earlier this morning.
