Pastors and religious leaders have been in the news for some of the worst reasons like assault or extorting money from believers. This is not the first time a religious leader has been accused of committing a sexual crime in the country. Even amongst the Catholic faithfuls, priests have over the years been charged with such crimes that are against their doctrine and beliefs.

A Pastor of a Church in Masingo, Kakamega county has been accused of sexually harassing a middle-aged married woman, Doreen Achieng, this past weekend on Saturday. The Pastor, identified as Peter Ayumba, was caught right in the act by the woman’s husband, Wellington Matunda who found the two in a compromising position inside the church.

According to Doreen, she had visited the pastor’s church to seek special prayers for an ailment, when he allegedly sexually harassed her. Pastor Ayumba on the other hand said that Achieng had been bewitched thus, needed to be rid of the witchcraft spell, which according to the victim, is a process she didn’t know would involve sex.

The victim says that she was shocked to find out that the process of ridding her of the evil spirits involved sex.

“He applied oil on my private parts. I took a sheet and wrapped myself in it to the chest area. He said: ‘No, cover yourself to the face’. I did that. When I tried to remove the sheet from my face, he would tell me: ‘Cover your face because if you don’t, my angels won’t grant you your wish’. He started initiating sexual intercourse with me.

I told him: ‘No, don’t do it. I fear my husband will find me here. And, if it is a must I have sex with you for the miracle to happen, then let me remain as I am.’ The resultant chaos caught the attention of other people,” Achieng said.

Achieng’s husband Mr. Matunda walked in on the two and allegedly descended on Pastor Ayumba with kicks and blows over claims that he was taking sexual advantage of his wife.

The Pastor however denied the allegations saying that Achieng’s husband attacked him unfairly and is focused on tainting his reputation.

“I have not slept with your wife, and neither was I involved with her in any way. If your wife claims I bedded her, I am not aware,” said Ayumba.

In Pastor Ayumba’s version of event, Mr. Matunda told him that his wife in her sleep, dreamt that she was having sex with him. He further said that Matunda confronted him and claimed that he has HIV, asking him to go with him for an HIV test which he declined. After which, according to Ayumba, Matunda began clobbering him in the company of his wife.
