A daring suggestion by trade unionist Francis Atwoli to extend President Uhuru Kenyatta’s role after the end of his fixed 10-year term “because he is young” was met with annoyance by a section of Kenyans, who termed it “warped” and the brainchild of “hardliners” within and around State House.

The suggestion was immediately dismissed by Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Tharaka-Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, who termed it “an insult to workers” as it had been made on the day the nation paused to celebrate and reward the labouring masses.

“I urge Uhuru to look at respected leaders like (former US President Barack) Obama, who retired at 54,” Governor Njuki told the Nation on the phone. “If he does not want to destroy what has been a hard-fought legacy, he should not allow people to impose him on Kenyans after 2022.”

Mr Odinga  and Mr Musalia Mudavadi, were also at the venue at Uhuru Park when Mr Atwoli made the suggestion, and Mr odinga’s party has since backed calls for the reintroduction of a Prime Minister’s position although he avoided the constitutional change debate in his speech.

However one brave exiled Vocal lawyer Miguna Miguna has told off opposition leader Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta for what he termed as “The Mythical Bridges To Nowhere.”

The Self-styled NRM general Miguna Miguna said the pact is a stepping stone to an authoritarian state run by the two families that have been at the center of Kenya’s politics since Independence.

The lawyer, who was deported on February8, has pledged to return to Kenya to carry on with the push for electoral reforms and social justice.

Miguna believes that the Building bridges initiative patrons are having a different belief from what kenyans think in what he describes as a position requiring little or no work but giving the holder status or financial benefit for seven more years (“empty sinecures”).

Previously Miguna has been quoted saying , “The reconciliation is not intended to help unemployed youth get jobs and the homeless get housing. It is not intended to help struggling workers, professionals and the middle class secure their future and livelihoods,”

“It is meant to cement the 55-year domination by a few elites and families over more than 99 per cent of suffering Kenyans.”

He said more than 380 people died in protests between August and November last year, and added that he is currently stuck in Canada because of supporting Raila’s mock swearing in.
