How Harambee Stars ended up being nominated for CAF awards

They say hard word pays. And i bet you would agree with me when I say the Kenyan National Football team Harambee Stars has has a string of good performances lately. That has earned them a nomination at CAF Awards in the  team of the year  category where they will compete against  Mauritania, Uganda, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.

First of all, Kenya has remained in position 105 in the latest Fifa rankings released on Thursday by the global football body. The Kenyans did not play any match during the Fifa international break between November 12 and 20 after their 2019 African Football Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying match against Sierra Leone on November 18 was cancelled.

The Group “F” match was removed from the calendar as the West Africans are currently serving an indefinite ban from Fifa due to government interference in the Sierra Leone Football Association.

Then again  Harambee Stars are set to return to the Africa Cup of Nations next year in Cameroon after a 15-year absence.

Wins over Ghana and Ethiopia in their last two qualification fixtures have pushed Harambee Stars to the brink of qualification to the biennial continental football showpiece.

Further, Stars came second at the Hero Intercontinental Cup in India, a four-nation tournament that also had Chinese Taipei and New Zealand taking part.

The final awards gala will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, in Dakar, Senegal

Harambee Stars will know AFCON fate as CAF assembles In Ghana. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Extraordinary Executive Committee meeting will take place in Accra – Ghana today (Friday) to discuss matters likely to have huge impact on the game.

Among the agenda on the table is the fate of Sierra Leone in the ongoing AFCON 2019 qualifiers following the FIFA suspension of the country’s football association.
