Harambee Stars’ Nomination for CAF Award Sends Kenyans into Party Mode

Has Kenya qualified for AFCON?

That is the question on everyone’s lips after the Confederations of African Football (CAF) nominated the national team Harambee Stars for the prestigious Men Team of the year award.

The nominations comes at a time when Kenyan Football fans are holding their breaths as they await for CAF to confirm our qualification in next years’ event.

CAF is supposed to make a decision on Sierra Leone, who were suspended by FIFA over government interference. They have not played three matches, a double header against Ghana and an away fixture against Kenya.

If Sierra Leone are to be permanently suspended from the qualifiers, then Kenya is guaranteed of a place in next year’s showpiece in Cameroon. Harambee Stars currently lead Group F with seven points, one ahead of Ghana. Ethiopia are third with 4 points.

The nomination for the CAF men’s team of the year, however could signify that Kenya has already qualified since the other five nominees have sealed qualification.

Kenya last qualified for AFCON in 2004.
