Gor Mahia Fire a Warning Shot to Kariobangi Sharks Ahead of Super Cup Clash

Gor Mahia and the FKFShield Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks are set to face each other in a KPL Super Cup match on Sunday.

The last time the two sides met was during the Shield Cup quarters where Sharks defeated the Green Army to advance and later on win the competition. K’Ogalo captain Harun Shakava now says it is not about revenge, but the main thing is to get it right against their opponents.

“We are two different teams with different targets of the season, this being our second competitive game, we want to give our best and win the match. No, it is not about revenge, that was a different game last year, this is a different season and we are doing different things.

“As usual, we want to ask the fans to turn out in large numbers and give us the support we need,” said Shakava.

The debate whether Gor Mahia will grab a historic sixth KPL Super Cup title or it will be the first time Kariobangi Sharks will lay their hands on the trophy, will finally come to an end on Sunday.

Cup holders, Gor Mahia beat AFC Leopards in January to lift their fifth title; the highest by any Kenyan club in this competition. But Sharks will also step out to share a piece of the history for the traditional KPL curtain raiser.

K’Ogalo have lifted the title five times in the past nine years – 2009, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2018 save for 2012 and 2013 when they lost to Tusker and 2015 to Bandari.

Other than 2010 when Sofapaka played AFC Leopards, the other Super Cup final where Gor Mahia were not involved was in 2011 where Sofapaka beat Ulinzi Stars by a solitary goal
