So there was a reason behind it. Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has explained the inspiration behind his hilarious American accent that lit up the Blue Economy conference dinner on Sunday, November 25. Speaking during his address to the “Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani” meeting at a Nairobi Hotel on Wednesday, Sonko could not help but bring up the question of his accent which has impressed and tickled Kenyans at the same time.

According to the governor, he was only out to impress the over 10,000 dignitaries who had graced the dinner on Sunday and since the stakes were so high, he also had to bring his A gave as far as public speaking was concerned.

Apparently, his A gave stood for American as he unleashed a cheeky accent which left everyone buzzing. “Our guests have now gone so now I can say on behalf of Kenyatta , not ‘Kenyatta’. Our guests have now gone but there is an accent we use to welcome our international communities so they don’t think we aren’t like them,” he explained.

Sonko, in his tedious climb up the ladder of politics, has had his credentials and education questioned, and he has constantly proven doubters wrong by overcoming the odds which have seemingly been against him, always. In his quest to become governor, Kenyans particularly noted an astounding metamorphosis of the governor as he ditched the casual wear and flamboyant hairstyles for a more formal, leader-like look.

He once revealed in an interview he had to change his whole demeanor including advancing his looks and education if he was to stand any chance of convincing the electorate that he could actually govern the city.
