Manchester United warned against playing Rashford upfront

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has revealed why Marcus Rashford is struggling at the club as a No 9.

Jose Mourinho decided to use Rashford as number 9 but the England international endured a frustrating night in the Champions League as Marouane Fellaini came from the bench to net the winner.

Rashford wasted a golden chance to find the net but fluffed his lines, much to the frustration of boss Mourinho who turned away in disgust.

Scholes believes Rashford is struggling because United’s midfield players are not doing enough to find their attacking teammates.

“I like to see partnerships in teams. A midfield player seeing a center forward, having a link with him. I just don’t see it in this team. I can see Rashford making runs but I can’t see a player who’s going to pass the ball to him,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“Creativity is a big problem in that team. Fred, we don’t know too much about. We know Fellaini and Matic are not going to be threading passes. I just don’t see a midfielder who is going to look for a centre-forward,” he added.
