Oceans are the heart of our planet, they contain 97% of the Earth’s water, supply nearly half the oxygen we breathe, absorb over a quarter of the carbon dioxide we produce and regulate the weather and temperature.
President Museveni jetted into Kenya to attend the first global conference on the sustainable blue economy that is aimed at harnessing the potential of oceans, seas, lakes and rivers to improve lives of people in developing states.
While speaking at the forum Museveni revealed that the reason Uganda is cutting down trees is because of firewood and poverty, on the other hand he also pointed out the Westerners revealing that they are cutting trees simply because of greed.

The Sustainable Blue Economy Conference builds on the momentum of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the 2015 Climate Change Conference in Paris and the UN Ocean Conference 2017 ‘Call to Action’.
The three days conference is slated to end of Wednesday and and has attract over 4,000 participants from around the world to learn how to build a blue economy that Leverages the latest innovations, scientific advances and best practices to build prosperity while conserving our waters for future generations.
The conference intends to capture concrete commitments and practical actions that can be taken today to help the world transition to the blue economy.
Kenya with its co-hosts Canada, Japan, south Africa, china European union, UK are rallying around the enormous pressures facing oceans and waters, from plastic pollution to the impacts of climate change.
The meeting also aims at identifying how to harness the potential of the blue economy to create jobs and combat poverty and hunger, Show how economic development and healthy waters go hand in hand, Capture commitments and practical actions that can be taken today.
