In a demonstration of pure lack of class and character, eight boys found themselves in trouble for opening their mouths carrying all the wrong words indiscipline can be associated with. This has created an uproar in Kenya with mixed reactions over the matter.

Senate Minority Leader James Orengo jumped to the defence of Ambira High School students who made national headlines after being captured on camera insulting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and his Education counterpart Amina Mohammed.

Speaking at an event, Orengo described the incident as a bad example of young people copying Kenyan adults known to engage in extreme impunity and graft.

His sentiments were echoed by many Kenyans online who accused the government of being too heavy-handed in dealing with the students.

Others, however, maintained that the students who claimed to have cheated in KCSE examinations had to be taught a lesson.

The eight students were on Monday detained for seven days as the prosecution sought more time to complete investigations.

They appeared before Ukwala resident magistrate Gladys Adhiambo but failed to take a plea.

Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Chair George Magoha had stated that action would be taken if it was established that the boys indeed cheated as they claimed.

“We have already prescribed what we do to people who cheat and that is what we are going to do,” he noted while promising not to profile any school.

President Uhuru Kenyatta himself waded into the matter, delivering a no-nonsense message to the students on Saturday at State House, Nairobi where he was presiding over the Kenya Scouts’ Association Patron Day.

“Some of the things the young people are engaging in require sheer guts … telling us through insults that they are proud to have cheated in the exam.

“If you can brag about cheating we will show you what the State does with cheats,” he stated.

In the video, the students of Ambira High School daringly insulted the two Cabinet Secretaries for their efforts in ensuring the credibility of the exams.

They also bragged of cheating in this year’s national examinations.

What do you think the state will do to the boys?
