Auba goal: What Aubameyang had to say about the game

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s record on what is supposed to be the day of rest is remarkable: 16 games played, 14 goals scored.

But the Gabon international freely admits that it was only a concerted push after the interval that allowed him to continue his record.

on winning after three consecutive draws…
I think we knew that it would be a tough game today and it was really tough, but it’s good to be back with a win

On whether they caught Bournemouth off guard with his game-winning goal…
Maybe! I think Alex gave the ball to Sead and I just sprinted into the area, then he gave me a good pass.

on whether they came out more determined in the second half…
I think the goal before half-time was bad for us because at half time we spoke and we knew that in the second half we had to come back out with a better intensity. We knew that we had to put some aggression into the game and do better than we did in the first half.

on whether we’re building something…
Yeah, I think so. We are following the process and we will continue in this way. The group are living well so we will try to continue in this way.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 10th goal of the season made the difference as we moved to within a point of the top four with our first win in four games.

Alex Iwobi’s fabulous pass set up Sead Kolasinac for a low cross that Aubameyang converted from close range to clinch a hard-fought win.

Bournemouth, in Unai Emery’s words, have “played with joy” this season and they were certainly the livelier side in the early stages.

David Brooks had a goal ruled out for offside and we were indebted to Sokratis for a couple of timely interventions – the Greece defender back in side as a part of a back three.

Lucas Torreira seized on a careless pass to advance and fire a shot against the post, but we were mostly up against it until an eye-catching own goal gave us the lead.

Kolasinac got forward on the left and clipped a pass towards Aubameyang inside the box. It never reached him – Jefferson Lerma got there first and inadvertently
slammed the ball past Asmir Begovic.
