The county government of Kisumu has given notice to the general public and land rate defaulters to pay up their dues before December 21 or lose the parcels of land if they do not clear their debts.

Kisumu Land Task Force Committee on Saturday, November 24, published a list of 58 defaulters including the family of former vice president Jaramogi Oginga Odinga among those owing the county a total KSh15 billion.

Committee Secretary Nicholas Migot confirmed the opposition doyen registered under names Ajuma Oginga Odinga and Dr Oginga is yet to pay dues amounting to KSH 8,069,842.

β€œThe county government of Kisumu hereby gives notice to the general public and land rate defaulters, that for efficient land rate management and verification of ownership records as captured, the defaulters are directed to pay all their dues by December 21,” read a notice.

Migot however clarified the defaulters must seek clearance from the task force clearance centre at Kisumu works yard where their invoices shall be ascertained before payment is made.

Other non payers include former MP Peter Oloo Aringo and Catholic Archbishop Zacheus Okoth. Unconfirmed reports have it that owing to the status of Oginga, he was exempted from payment by the defunct Kisumu municipal council.
