For most of us who were born in the early 90’s, Lion King is probably the first movie we ever watched. In fact, majority of us still watch the Disney classic to date and can narrate the movie word for word. That’s pretty much how some of us are invested.

If you fall into this category of people, I’ve got news for you, good news of course… Disney has finally released the official trailer of the Lion King film. Yes! There’s a movie.

Some of us have never really forgiven Scar so before you watch the teaser trailer, just pause for a minute and imagine rewatching Mufasa’s death, this time in 3D.

The first teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King was aired during NFL’s traditional Thanksgiving primetime game in the US. Fans of the original film were pleased to hear the trailer narrated by James Earl Jones, who plays king Mufasa in both the 1994 original and next year’s film.

After 25 years, Lion King the Movie is all set to come out next year! The film has huge names attached to it including; Donald Glover who will play Simba, Beyonce who plays his love interest Nala and Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays the one we all hate, uncle Scar.

Other standouts in the ensemble include: Alfre Woodard (Sarabi), John Oliver (Zazu), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa) and Keegan-Michael Key (Kamari).

In the trailer we see the familiar opening moments of the story, where Rafiki presents a young Simba to the animals of the Pride Lands a suggestion that the new film will follow the original story.

The trailer racked up more than 10 million views in less than 24 hours. The film is directed by Jon Favreau, who was behind the live-action remake of The Jungle Book.

“It is a director’s dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life,” Jon said.

The Lion King is set for release in theatres on July 19, 2019.

It’s pretty clear that the theatres will have more adults than children once the film is released next year. What was your favourite scene in the 1994 Disney film?
