DPP makes shocking revelations in NHIF graft case as he issues statement

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has been making headlines on his stunt against graft in Kenya. Haven’t seen him asking for the probe of top state officials? The DPP has now embarked on graft allegations at the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

On Saturday, Noordin Haji released a statement detailing the tribulations facing investigations at the NHIF.

Haji listed the NHIF CEO and 13 other staff at the entity who are facing investigations into what is suspected to be a misappropriation of public resources and corruption.

In his statement, the DPP says NHIF CEO Geoffrey Mwangi and Finance Director Wilbert Kurgatrefused to give DCI detectives crucial documents that would aid in the probe.

Among the required evidence are documents detailing payments worth millions of shillings to Webtribe Ltd. The two are set to be arraigned on Monday on charges of conspiracy to defeat justice, disobedience of lawful orders.

“Investigations conducted by the DCI have revealed that the two individuals jointly conspired to obstruct the course of justice by denying the DCI officers access to crucial documents.” held the DPP.

Mwangi and Kurgat were arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of Friday.

The two had been summoned to DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road and apprehended soon after they arrived.

In September this year, DCI sleuths conducted searches at the homes of senior staff at NHIF and at the body’s headquarters where they recovered and held documents that are meant to aid in the probe.

Nairobi resident Magistrate Sinkiyan Tobiko granted the DCI orders to conduct an electronic audit of the NHIF servers and confiscate electronic evidence that includes computers from the NHIF staff.

The DPP assured that he has enough evidence to support the charges against the suspects, as named in the signed document below;
