Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was among the spectators when Belgium beat Iceland 2-0 with reports by Belgian news outlets reporting, the Portuguese was scouting Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel.
Despite no Manchester United player being present in the match for Belgium after injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini, Mourinho traveled to Brussels on a scouting mission.
When asked after leaving the stadium why he was there to watch the match, the United manager joked that it was because of the ‘misty’ weather.
Belgian news outlet Het Laatste Nieuws reported that Mourinho was scouting Witsel ahead of a proposed move in the January transfer window.
Mourinho is said to regret not moving for Witsel in the summer, and would offer Dortmund profit on their investment of £17m in August from Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian.
Is he What Manchester needs?
