Liverpool fans were slightly annoyed when they sold their star player Coutinho to Barcelona, but it has now emerged that the Reds got a great deal when they sold the Brazilian to the Catalan club.

The original fee was €130m which seemed incredibly inflated given the fact Barcelona had just received over €200m for Neymar and the Spanish giants were quick to splash the cash on Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

The former Liverpool man has certainly been the more successful of the two big money signings with the current uncertainty surrounding Dembele. Coutinho has scored four goals in eleven league games this season whilst also bagging in the Champions League, combining with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi to devastating effect.

In Suarez and Coutinho, Liverpool have lost two of their world-class talents to Barcelona in recent years and they were keen to make sure they at least had a few years until Barca could come and poach one of their big names again.

That is why, when they sold Coutinho, they inserted a clause into his contract that prevented Barcelona from signing any Liverpool players until the year 2021.

This means players such as Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah will not be allowed to join Barcelona in the next two years, although there is still a possibility that Liverpool can sign Barca players.

Ousmane Dembele has been the man at the centre of the transfer speculation with Jurgen Klopp keen on the Frenchman. If Liverpool spend big, they could land the unsettled World Cup winner as soon as January.
