Love is Love!!Kenya’s Veteran musician speaks on Homosexuality

Members of LGBT community in Kenya are still stigmatized,recently Kenyans trolled down Bishop Allan and Reverend Kathy Kiuna after they hosted popular CNN anchor Richard Quest, who is openly gay at their church.

Kenyans celebrated musician Eric Wainaina has frankly expressed his view on homosexuality while delivering a keynote address at the Africa Conference For Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases last week.

The veteran musician was feted at the opening of the three-day pan–African conference which was held at the Kenya National Theater.

“To be counted worthy of recognition and holder of the 2018 Music In Africa Honorary Award was a humbling and gratifying experience. Thank you,” wrote Eric after being feted.

A lot of our colleagues are gay and they should not be sidelined adding that went on to stress that their sexuality should be no one’s business.

“A lot of our colleagues are gay. Who someone chooses to love has nothing to do with you. Concern yourself with things that you do. We have to play our part in defining Africa’s present and future agenda. We can’t let the agenda be decided by the conservative, polyester, over sized suit, bald-headed men,” said Eric Wainaina.

Recently the LGBT community had a battle in Kenya’s courts to throw out a British colonial-era law criminalizing gay sex has been reinvigorated after India scrapped similar legislation in a landmark ruling .

Homosexuality is taboo in the east African nation and the persecution of sexual minorities is rife. Under sections of Kenya’s penal code, gay sex or “carnal knowledge against the order of nature” is punishable by up to 14 years in jail.

Campaigners are petitioning Kenya’s high court to repeal the sections, saying they violate constitutional rights to equality, dignity and privacy.
