Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has opened up about how his departure from Real Madrid angered former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ozil joined Arsenal from Los Blancos in 2013 and Ronaldo was not happy with the club letting the playmaker leave the Los Blancos, making room for then record signing Gareth Bale.
A Spanish publication has revealed that not only fans were angered but Ronaldo too due to the great partnership the two had. Ronaldo produced many goals due to Ozil’s passing and vision on the pitch.
“The sale of Ozil is bad news for me. He was the player who best understood my movements in front of goal. I’m very angry that Ozil is being sold.”
Ozil reveals how former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reached him through a phone call and assured him that he would be considered a key player at the Emirates.
“At the weekend I was sure that I would stay at Real Madrid but then I realized that I didn’t have the confidence of the coach or the board. I am the kind of player that needs this faith and that is what I felt from Arsenal and that is why I joined them,” said Ozil.
Since moving to the north London club, Ozil has registered 30 goals and 51 assists and the numbers are only set to go up.
